This paper includes two studies: a qualitative analysis of interviews with practing bioartists and a first-hand account of a work of bioart. There are two primary contributions: 1) theoretical inspiration and new questions for the emerging area of HCI concerned with living organisms in user interfaces, and 2) a practical demonstration of transdisciplinary research/collaboration as experienced by bioartists and their collaborators.
